Fears have mounted in Dunboyne that the village’s existing built environment will change with out-of-character three and four-storey apartment buildings following the lodging of a major retail and housing development.
There are also fears that the proposed development by Lynthirst Ltd will overlook the private housing development of Millfarm.
The proposed development at a site locally known as ‘Tom’s Field’ on the Navan Road in Dunboyne includes a supermarket, 20 individual shops, a restaurant and medical centre in three to four storeys. Proposals also include 69 one, two and three bedroom apartments, six two-storey terraced houses and 411 off-street parking spaces.
However, despite the height of the proposal being not in keeping with the street scape, the retail and residential aspect of the proposal has been welcomed.
“Dunboyne does need an injection of retail units but what I am looking for is a reduction in the height aspect of the proposal,” explained Cllr Noel Leonard.
“The rest of the village is two-storey and having four-storey style developments is not within character,” he added.
“We also want the access to Millfarm estate to remain private and local residents should get their submissions in and their opinions need to be taken on board.”
