Conviction for drunken rampage
A man who went on a drunken rampage and caused over €1,000 worth of damage to premises in Dunshaughlin was convicted and fined at last Tuesday’s (September 2) sitting of Dunshaughlin District Court.
Derek Dobson (26) of Glenbhu Road in Cabra committed the rampage on January 20. He pleaded guilty to the two counts of vandalism.
The court heard that Dobson had been drinking in Carberry’s Pub and subsequently broke three glass fire units. “This set off the fire alarm,” Garda Raymond Dennison told the Court. “He was told to leave the pub and he eventually did but then went onto damage the bus shelter on Main Street,” the garda continued.
Explaining his actions and apologising in court, Dobson said “I had been diagnosed with Bi-Polar and I didn’t take my medication. I had a lot of issues at the time and it went out of control.”
The court heard that compensation had been paid to a private house owner who also had their window smashed during the rampage.
But Dobson said he did not have the money to pay for the damage to the pub and bus shelter.
Convicting Dobson, Judge Fitzpatrick fined him €300 for the damage to Carberry’s Pub and ordered that a further €399.30 in compensation be paid. He also fined Dobson €300 for the damage to the bus shelter and ordered he pay €310 in compensation to Clear Channel.
